Tribhuvan University and Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research Strengthen Scientific Collaboration

Beijing, November 15 – Tribhuvan University (TU) and the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research (ITP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), held a pivotal meeting at the ITP-CAS office in Beijing. The meeting focused on enhancing scientific cooperation and collaboration between the two institutions.

The TU delegation, led by Prof. Dr. Keshar Jung Baral, Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, reached an agreement with ITP-CAS to bolster joint scientific initiatives. Prof. Tandong Yao, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, emphasized the critical role of science in national development. Highlighting the ongoing collaboration at the Kathmandu Center for Research and Education (KCRE), Prof. Yao encouraged young scientists to contribute to the advancement of scientific innovation.

During the meeting, Prof. Baral underscored his commitment to scientific development at Tribhuvan University and sought ITP-CAS's support in providing scientific training to Nepali scientists at KCRE. Prof Baral also expressed keen interest in forging partnerships with other Chinese universities and research institutions.

Prof. Alikun, In charge of Science technology and cooperation of International Cooperation at ITP-CAS, presented a historical overview of ties between the two institutions, while Mr. Binod Joshi, Executive Director of the Centre for International Relations at Tribhuvan University, delivered an introductory presentation on behalf of the Nepalese delegation.

Both institutions agreed to prioritize collaborative efforts in science and innovation. The meeting was attended by senior officials from ITP-CAS, including Director General Prof Xuliang Zhuang, KCRE Executive Director Prof Tao Wang,  Prof Wang Wei Cai and Dr. Tinali Xu and  Prof. Dr. Deepak Aryal, Head of the Central Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (CDHM), Dr. Binod Dawadi, Associate Professor of CDHM and Deputy Director of KCRE, Balaram Duwal,Acting Director, Confucious Institue at Tribhuvan University. Dr. Sunil Acharya, Lecturer at CDHM and Scientist at KCRE, Dr. Abatar Subedi, Head of the Department of Mathematics Education, Mr. Rajman Maharjan, Section Officer at the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Mr. Krishna Prasad Bastakoti, Correspondent at the Information and Public Relations Division form Tribhuvan University.

The meeting marked a significant step towards strengthening the scientific partnership between Nepal and China, with a shared vision of advancing research and education through collaboration.
