Introduction
Tribhuvan University (TU), established in 1959, is Nepal’s oldest and largest institution of higher education. As the apex body of academic governance, the Office of the Vice Chancellor (VC) plays a pivotal role in steering the university’s strategic vision, academic excellence, and administrative operations. The Vice Chancellor serves as the chief executive and academic leader, overseeing 64 constituent campuses and around 950 affiliated colleges across Nepal.


Role of the Vice Chancellor

The Vice Chancellor is appointed by the President of Nepal (the university’s Chancellor) and acts as the principal authority for:

  1. Academic Leadership:

    • Approving curricula, promoting research, and ensuring quality education.

    • Facilitating collaborations with global institutions for academic innovation.

  2. Administrative Oversight:

    • Managing finances, infrastructure, and human resources.

    • Implementing policies set by the Executive Council and Senate.

  3. Policy Implementation:

    • Executing decisions related to exams, admissions, and faculty appointments.

  4. Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Liaising with government bodies, international organizations, and donors.


 


Key Initiatives (2023–2024)

Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Keshar Jung Baral (current VC), TU is prioritizing:

  1. Digital Transformation: Launching online learning platforms and digital libraries.

  2. Research Promotion: Increasing grants for STEM and social science research.

  3. Infrastructure Development: Upgrading labs, hostels, and smart classrooms.

  4. Global Collaboration: Signing MoUs with universities in Asia, Europe, and the U.S.
