Interaction with BIMSTEC Secretary General Held at Tribhuvan University


Kathmandu, Nepal – An engaging interaction with the Secretary General of BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) took place at Tribhuvan University, organized by the Centre for Economic Development and Administration (CEDA). The program, themed "Harnessing Regional Synergies for Development and Prosperity in the BIMSTEC Region," brought together distinguished academics, business leaders, and media professionals to discuss and promote regional cooperation and development.

The event commenced with an introduction by Prof. Dr. Arjun Baral, Executive Director of CEDA, who highlighted CEDA’s pivotal role as a focal point for BIMSTEC activities in Nepal. He emphasized CEDA’s ongoing contributions to regional cooperation and research initiatives, underscoring the significance of collaborative efforts for sustainable development.

Dr. Dinesh Bhattarai, a renowned foreign expert, moderated the program. He stressed the need for BIMSTEC to address emerging global and unprecedented challenges, advocating for proactive strategies and stronger regional partnerships to navigate these issues effectively.

Ms. Bhawani Rana, a prominent business leader and former chair of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), provided insights on multi-sectoral trade and tourism within the Asia-Pacific region. She emphasized the potential of these sectors to drive economic growth and enhance regional integration.

Journalist Mr. Kosh Raj Koirala, editor of Republica Daily, called for robust ties between BIMSTEC and academic institutions. He highlighted the importance of leveraging academic research and expertise to inform policy-making and strengthen regional cooperation.

The Secretary General of BIMSTEC delivered a comprehensive presentation detailing the organization's activities, developmental milestones, major initiatives, and its extensive regional network. The presentation underscored BIMSTEC's commitment to fostering multi-sectoral cooperation and addressing regional development challenges.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Dr. Keshar Jung Baral, Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, expressed gratitude to BIMSTEC for its collaboration with CEDA. He suggested that BIMSTEC should further focus on agriculture, tourism, and trade to bolster regional prosperity. Prof. Dr. Baral reaffirmed Tribhuvan University’s dedication to supporting BIMSTEC’s mission and initiatives.
